The UK Government has announced a new legal definition and statutory guidance on ‘honour’-based abuse—an essential step toward protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable.

This change is the result of years of tireless campaigning by survivors, bereaved families, frontline professionals, and over 30 specialist organisations, including Karma Nirvana, Southall Black Sisters, Savera UK, Sikh Women’s Aid, Refuge, and many others.

Key measures include:

🔹 A statutory definition to improve safeguarding and justice
🔹 Training for teachers, police, social workers, and healthcare professionals
🔹 A national awareness campaign to encourage victims to come forward
🔹 A pilot study to understand the true scale of this abuse
🔹 Improved multi-agency response and risk assessment

We stand with survivors like Payzee Mahmod, the family of Fawziyah Javed, and all those who have fought to make this happen. Their courage and persistence have helped shape this vital change.

There is no honour in abuse.
