On Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3:00pm, the UK Government will send a nationwide Emergency Alert test to all compatible mobile phones and tablets.
Devices will:
- Emit a loud siren (even if on silent)
- Display a warning message
- Sound for around 10 seconds
If you use a hidden phone or tablet for safety, this alert could expose your device and put you at risk.
To stay safe:
- Switch off hidden devices before 3:00pm
- Or set them to Airplane Mode
- You can also opt out of alerts in your phone’s settings:
- iPhone: Settings → Notifications → scroll down → turn off Emergency Alerts
- Android: Settings → Safety & Emergency → Wireless Emergency Alerts → turn off
Even if you’ve opted out, switching off or using airplane mode is the safest option.
